Hartland Area Chamber Awards Scholarship
Friday, June 10, 2011 – Hartland, Michigan – For the 20th consecutive year, the Hartland Area Chamber of Commerce (HACC) is presenting a $1000 scholarship to a Hartland High School senior for demonstrating the kind of character and qualities the Chamber seeks to propagate in the community. These characteristics include, but are not limited to: demonstrating leadership and one who places a value on community service and personal growth. The 2011 recipient, Janeen Dusseau, certainly displays these qualities.
Dusseau has not only shown exemplary leadership skills in participating in the high school’s Link Crew program, through which she mentored freshmen through their first year of high school. She also teaches an acolyte and recreation class at her community church, sings in the church choir, and is on the church worship committee. “She works very diligently in her church and exemplifies high Christian morals and ideals,” said Rev. Joyce E. Wallace, Dusseau’s pastor of nearly six years.
Through Janeen’s high school attendance she developed an interest in radiology. She has volunteered at the Veterans Affairs Hospital of Ann Arbor (VA) in the radiology department thus strengthening her interest. She will pursue a career in radiology by studying at Ferris State University.
Along with the $1000 scholarship certificate that was presented to her on Tuesday, June 7th at the Hartland High School Senior Awards Night, Dusseau’s name will be placed on a commemorative plaque displayed at the Chamber of Commerce office.
The judges for the scholarship committee include the following Chamber members: Marla LeKarczyk (Diversified Contractors), Jon Hougaboom (AAA of Hartland), Janice Wright (PNC Bank and HACC Board Member), Faye Jones Bessette (Yarmak & Co. CPA & HACC President), and Jana Warford (HACC Director).
The Hartland Area Chamber of Commerce serves to assist business establishment and growth in the Hartland area through information, support and networking; and to provide a means for business to give back to the community.
